Job Description -
Worship
We seek a pastor who will design wonderful worship celebrations on Sundays for our two distinct worship services: Traditional Worship at 9:00 AM and Journey Café at 11:00. We look for thoughtful liturgy and hymn selection centered around the scripture and Biblical sermon in Traditional Worship. We anticipate our pastor will aim for a more relaxed approach in preparing for the Journey Café service even while we fully expect the pastor to use the same sermon for the day. Our pastor will need to also prepare and lead special services including Christmas Eve and Holy Week.
Teaching
Our congregation loves to learn about the Bible and the faith. We encourage our pastor to lead the weekly Wednesday morning Bible study and other occasional evening studies. We also hope our pastor will encourage and support our other small group ministries. We will also need our pastor to lead new member’s classes, new officer orientation and baptism preparation as needed.
Leader among Leaders
We need our bridge pastor to help keep us organized and flourishing while we seek our next called pastor. While we have a capable staff, they need supervision and support. We also have many able volunteers who often need direction and assistance. We will need our pastor to moderate the Session, the monthly staff meeting and attend monthly Deacon’s meetings. It would be helpful if the pastor could also attend committee meetings as available.
Communication
Communication is key in any church these days. We hope our bridge pastor will work with staff and volunteers to help the people of the church stay connected and informed through phone calls, newsletter articles, emails, texts, our website, social media or whatever means makes sense to our new pastor.
Pastoral Care and Counseling
In the absence of a called pastor, we know that pastoral care for our members is especially needed. We will look to our pastor for hospital and emergency calling when in the city and to communicate care by phone when away from Elkhart. We will also need our pastor to do church funerals, weddings as needed and to provide pastoral care and counseling as time allows.
Salary: $75,000 for full-time / $56,250 for ¾ time.
