Job Description -
Tasks, Expectations, Duties:
- Moderate Session and Congregational meetings.
- Plan, lead, and preach at regular and special worship services in conjunction with the Director of Worship and the Worship Ministry Team.
- Officiate sacraments, baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
- Encourage the congregation and provide pastoral care when needed.
- Provide administrative leadership, particualy resourcing Stewardship and Finance, Personnel, and the Deacons.
- Serve as Head of Staff, supporting and supervising the work of part-time Director of Worship and Faith Formation and Office Manager/Communications Director.
- Join the congregation in serving the local community as a trusted leader.
- Steward ship: help the church find ways to improve its finances.

Sampson’s Mills Presbyterian Church (SMPC) has been an active, faithful, and loving presence in White Oak for 125 years.
Our church strives to reflect Christ’s love by reaching out to people where they are, not waiting for an individual to cross the threshold of the church. We do this through our established mission and ministries which foster and strengthen relationships with individuals and other faith communities.
SMPC is located in White Oak, PA (a suburb located 12 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary). It is a very diverse small town neighbored by a range of landscapes: urban, rural, other suburbs and small towns. In many ways, both White Oak and SMPC are unique hubs between varying cultures and communities.
The needs of the surrounding neighborhoods are as varied and diverse as its people. Our congregation addresses these needs in mulitple ways. To highlight some: Cupboard Stretchers food pantry, our Logos centered mid-week ministry (bringing multiple generations together). Several times a year we collect furniture and home goods for those in need, and our wide reaching VBS program includes participants from many denominations and demographics.
The new pastor will join a dedicated and talented staff, contributing their own unique vision, skills, and leadership to help advance SMPC’s already successful and vibrant mission ministry. S/he will need to be a spiritually mature servant leader, influencing and guiding volunteers so that they use their gifts and take joy in serving others.
The ideal pastor will present the word of God in unique, creative, engaging ways that truly connect with the congregation and modern life.
This call will bolster our church in its mission to serve Jesus Christ as we cultivate community and empower others.
The congregation of Sampson’s Mills seeks a pastor who lives in a spirit of service, who is authentically in the moment, has impeccable integrity, and is skillful in counseling and encouraging others.
S/he should deliver sermons clearly and plainly, explaining deep theological messages in a way that many will understand. Similarly, S/he should have a consistent message that is demonstrated through personal conversations, counseling, and all interactions with the congregation and public at large.
SMPC is committed to community service and mission. To this end, we need someone who is open to trying new ideas, is willing to fail, and try again. Our pastor will work alongside the worship & music director and faith staff, helping to support and strengthen current programs, and identify new opportunities.
We want a pastor who will invigorate, energize, and motivate both SMPC members and the surrounding community.
