Job Description -

Senior Minister (settled)

We envision our next minister partnering with us to grow a church that is vibrant, inclusive, and
deeply engaged in both faith and action. Together, using the gift of hospitality, our deep desire is
to welcome new people—especially younger individuals and families—into a community where
all feel seen, valued, and spiritually nourished. We want to strengthen our intergenerational
connections and create space for fresh ideas while honoring the traditions that ground us,
especially our rich worship and music life.

With our next minister, we aim to deepen our commitment to social justice and community
outreach—expanding partnerships, amplifying our impact, and ensuring that our faith continues
to show up in real, tangible ways throughout Muskegon. Internally, we look forward to
clarifying our organizational structure, improving communication, and empowering members to
use their gifts in leadership and service. Ultimately, we seek a minister who will co-create a
future with us that’s rooted in Christ’s love, fueled by justice, and open to the Spirit’s call for
growth, healing, and transformation.

Three core competencies we believe are foundational for our next minister’s relationship with
the church are:
1. Relational Leadership – We seek a minister who is approachable, a good listener, and
naturally builds strong connections across generations. Someone who leads with
empathy, encourages collaboration, and fosters a sense of belonging within the
congregation and the wider community.

2. Prophetic Preaching and Teaching – We value a minister who is a thoughtful
communicator and Biblical scholar—someone who can offer sermons that are relevant,
justice-oriented, and spiritually rich, helping us connect faith to action in today’s world.

3. Visionary and Practical Administration – We are looking for a leader who will work
collaboratively and in cooperation with the people of FCC to serve the life, witness, and
service of FCC well into the next generation of the 21st century. The minister will have
the gifts of wisdom and care to oversee the staff and its administration, ministries and
finances of FCC.
