Our tasks and expectations are the sorts of things one expects from a pastor: preach relevant, Bible-based sermons; visit, in addition to and in conjunction with our Parish visitors, the sick and homebound; be a recognizable face of the church in the community; administer the sacraments; moderate Session meeting; offer vision and direction; and co-operate with staff.
We need pastoral leadership to give us long-term vision and guidance. We know there is no perfect pastor, but we pray for the wisdom to discern to whom the Lord is leading us.
Although we recognize that every pastoral candidate possesses failings and shortcomings just as we do, we require our candidate, first, to have a strong personal relationship with the Lord. To us, this means someone who recognizes and proclaims the relevance of the Bible and its application in everyday life, maintains a regular prayer life, and shares the joys of Christianity, truly believing the words of Jesus Christ. Second, we expect our candidate to possess integrity, humility, and self-discipline; other qualities include fidelity in marriage, kindness, warmth, and humor. Finally, our candidate should be an effective written and oral communicator with the congregation, staff, committees, and Session.
We seek a pastor who feels God’s call to our church and who will provide biblically-based sermons that relate to everyday life. We also expect our pastor to minister to us in times of sickness and bereavement. We lack young adult membership and we desire an emphasis in attracting families to promote growth of our congregation. Administratively, our candidate needs to be well organized, able to conduct meetings efficiently, and interact easily with our staff. We expect our candidate to join us in being ambassadors for Christ through involvement in the civic life of the Wabash area.
