Job Description -
First Presbyterian Church of Wooster seeks a spiritually grounded, visionary leader who combines strong biblical preaching with initiative, collaborative leadership, and emotional intelligence for fostering a dynamic Christ-centered community.
We are especially looking for a pastor who can engage multiple generations through creative and traditional worship. We need a leader who will help us lean into our heritage of "Reformed and always reforming" as we discover new ways of worship.
As Head of Staff, the pastor will help oversee and coordinate the ministry life of our church by fostering communication, collaboration, alignment, and accountability among staff and ministry leaders. The congregation values a leader who can build healthy relationships, empower others, provide organizational clarity, and help us cultivate a culture of belonging.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Worship Leadership: Preach and lead worship that is biblically based and relevant to our current world. Collaborate with the Organist & Director of Music, Director of Children’s Music, Director of Family Ministries, and Faith & Worship coordinating team in planning worship.
- Spiritual Formation and Discipleship: Develop in collaboration with the Director of Family Ministries and Faith & Nurture coordinating team programs that encourage all generations to be disciples of Jesus Christ through meaningful Christian education and fellowship opportunities.
- Pastoral Care: Provide prayer and spiritual support for those in need. Strengthen and expand a framework for shared pastoral care alongside our Board of Deacons.
- Staff Oversight: Supervise and encourage a strong, capable staff.
- Church Governance: Provide deliberate leadership as Moderator of Session.
- Presbytery Service: Maintain active involvement with Muskingum Valley Presbytery.
- Community Engagement: Build relationships within the congregation and the broader community in collaboration with Faith & Nurture and Faith & Practice.
- Mission: Support mission and outreach in partnership with the Faith & Practice coordinating team.
- Stewardship Development: Guide thoughtful growth and faithful care of church finances to meet the needs of our congregation and community in collaboration with the Resource Development Ministry (RDM) and the Faith & Structure coordinating team.
