Fairborn First Presbyterian is a vibrant, caring, and mission-driven congregation, made up of mostly retirees with a handful of families with children ages 2-12. We are committed to living out our Christian faith through service, compassion and connection within our church family as well as the broader community. We are a church family who gathers for fellowship, coffee and snacks after worship every Sunday. We are a congregation who donates and stocks a Little Free Pantry in our parking lot. Our church home city of Fairborn has many individuals who are in need and we respond with assistance, both financially and with individual actions. Once a month, member volunteers provide and serve lunch at the Fairborn Senior Center, providing social interaction and fellowship. We support the Fairborn schools by volunteering as “Helping Hands” that assist children finding their classrooms at the beginning of the school year. We also donate supplies as well as funds to the school’s Transitional Living Program which provides assistance to students who are unhoused or living in temporary housing, helping them to stay in school during a difficult time in their life. Our ministries also include Fairborn FISH Food Pantry (https://fishfairborn.org and Family Promise of Greene County (https://familypromisegreeneco.org) whose mission is to help families experiencing homelessness and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response.
We are a Session designated Matthew 25 church, embracing the call to bold and compassionate discipleship. We are passionate about assisting others and our goal is to maintain this focus as far into the future as possible. Session, Board of Deacons, and the congregation as a whole wish to call a pastor who can work with us to further this endeavor. We believe God is calling us to deepen our presence in the Fairborn community which includes Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Wright State University. Other opportunities exist within our walls as our church facility houses the Enon Montessori School and meeting space is provided to several Alcoholics Anonymous groups. We are hopeful and open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we try new things and adapt to the changes necessary to sustain our mission into the future. Our empathy and concern for others remains strong and our congregation is committed to continuing Christ’s mission as a church in Fairborn. We value the connective nature of the Presbyterian polity and pray we can take advantage of it to ensure a positive future.
We believe a stated supply pastor best meets our needs at this time. We are prayerfully seeking a pastor who will walk alongside us as we continue to serve Christ with compassion, courage, and hope. To this end, the following characteristics would be preferred in our next pastor for First Presbyterian of Fairborn:
• First and foremost, we would like our pastor of Word and Sacrament to extend Christian love to all
• Lead meaningful and engaging Sunday worship service grounded in scripture
• Preach messages that offer clear, practical application for everyday life
• Ability to connect with a multigenerational congregation, specifically compassionate care for our elderly and/or homebound members and patient engagement with our children.
• Collaborate with church leadership to strengthen mission and education
• Fulfill the duties of being an officer of the Presbytery
